Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, aged 89, was officially discharged from Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday morning, bringing relief to his family and millions of fans. The iconic star, affectionately known as Bollywood's 'He-Man,' had been under medical care for nearly two weeks, having been admitted to the hospital on October 31.
The initial reason for his hospitalisation was reportedly a complaint of breathlessness, which led to a period of observation and necessary medical treatment. His health scare had prompted visits from various members of the film fraternity and an outpouring of well-wishes from across the country.
Confirming the discharge, an ambulance was seen leaving the hospital premises early this morning, transporting the actor to his residence, where he will continue his recovery. The decision for the veteran actor to complete his treatment at home was made by his family.
Dr. Prof Pratit Samdani, the physician who was overseeing Dharmendra's care at Breach Candy Hospital, confirmed the development to media outlets. Dr. Samdani stated, "Dharmendraji has been discharged from the hospital around 7.30 am. He will be treated at home as the family has decided to give him home treatment." The doctor further confirmed that his treatment protocol "would continue at home."
